A great tree has fallen at Osu Alata. A son of the Taylor and Ayertey houses, a grandson of royalty, a friend, a father, a husband — has answered the call beyond the river. We do not say farewell; we say Da yie — rest well, until the morning.

A Life Lived

His Journey

Charles Nii Aryertey Taylor walked among us for 55 remarkable years — a son of the Taylor and Ayertey houses of Osu Alata, and grandson of the celebrated Nii Kwabena Bonnie III, whose name still echoes through the streets of Accra and the history of the Gold Coast.

To his children, he was a patient guide. To Madam Florence Akua Ansah, his beloved widow, he was a devoted husband. To his siblings, cousins, nephews and nieces, he was the steady voice at every gathering — quick with a joke, slower to take offence, and always present when the family needed him most.

On Tuesday, 17th March 2026, after a sudden illness, Charles transitioned at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Legon. He leaves behind a legacy not measured in possessions, but in people — the lives he touched, the wounds he soothed, the names he remembered.

He was loved. He is loved. And he will be remembered.

Leave a Condolence

Uncle Charles was the kindest of all our uncles. He never forgot a birthday and never missed a school speech day. Sleep peacefully, Da Yie.

— Naa Tsaadey, niece

A true son of Osu Alata. He carried the dignity of his grandfather without ever needing to mention it. May the ancestors receive him with honour.

— Theodore K. Taylor, Head of Family

My brother. My friend. The phone calls. The laughter. I will miss them all. Until we meet again.
